Figure 1: The alpha-amylase is measured from B. licheniformis grown on media with starch and with or without glucose. Alpha-amylase activity greatly increased when starch was the main carbon source.

Figure 5: Depicts alanine racemase activity among different strains. Strain GPM14 shows marked overproduction of d-alanine racemase as a result of a single base change from T -> G in the alrA gene promoter as described in the "Results" section.

Figure 3A: Analysis of the production of the D-Alanine:D-Alanine dipeptide by different strains. Strains GPM259, GPM260, and GPM265 all show overproduction of the ligase due to amplification of the ddl gene compared to strains mc2155 and GPM14 which do not carry this amplification.

Figure 4 shows that when a mutant strain with a deletion of the yrhA gene was compared to the wild type strain growth was significantly decreased. Indication that methionine utilization mostly requires the yhrA gene for normal growth.

Figure 1: The osmotic permeability is much greater in the wild-type(Fig.1A) strain compared to the (ΔaqpZ::Cam+) strain (Fig.1B).

Figure 2: N-isopropylammelide was further degraded by crude extracts from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, but not by those of E. coli with pMD1 and pATZB-2 plasmids. N-isopropylammelide is an intermediate of the breakdown of atrazine.
