The authors clearly demonstrate that in addition to expressional increase to the GABA(A) receptor subunit delta, there is a concomitant increase in synaptic function of GABA(A) receptors as measured by phasic GABA(A) receptor currents using patch-clamp electrophysiology. This was done by measuring the miniature inhibitory post-synaptic currents of GABA(A) receptors (demonstrating changes to synaptic plasticity in Figure 7). The neurosteroid withdrawal procedure is a model for the "natural" decline in progesterone and neurosteroid metabolites in women during the menstrual cycle. Whereas this study concerns a disease model for epilepsy, the finding is nevertheless specific to changes in synaptic function and remains valid for the determination of a heretofore undiscovered ontological phenomenon.

Go term: The Induction of synaptic plasticity doesn't occur in this article. instead all the mice are first administered with vehicle control, then the NSW mice were experimented on to observe the effects of neurosteriod withdrawal around the time of induced menstrual periods. Suggested go terms: GO:0030424 (Axon) : Figure 3, one of the three areas where "staining with the antibody showed broad distribution of δ subunit" stated by author. GO:0090150 (establishment of protein localization to membrane): as the δ subunit was densely concentrated on the cell membrane, when visualized through immunofluorescence. PMID: 25339733 EC: IDA Notes: Only figure three from this article can be used, as figure one just illustrates the purpose of the project, and figure seven illustrates steroid-withdrawn pubertal mice, which are not in an organic or natural state.
