Challenge | Vchhabria, Team KremlinOnTheCrum | 2011-11-21 16:06:52 CST | This is a HUMONGOUS STRETCH of reality. knocking down a gene and finding that more cells die because it is knocked out typically means that cells are more resistant because of that gene to an attack (in this case H2O2). Furthermore, another quote from the article claims: "PKD1 knockdown increased cell death by nearly twofold compared to control groups during H2O2 treatment, indicating a pro-survival role for PKD1 against oxidative stress"

Public Assessment | Suzialeksander | 2011-11-22 21:13:58 CST | Based on the evidence in the paper as well as the support of reviewers, there is enough information to support the conclusion this gene is involved in apoptosis. Although some sort of resistance may sometimes be inferred due to knockdown, there are other factors than can cause this trend and there are other components to apoptosis other than death. Furthermore, the authours knocked down a gene and found less, not more, cells died. | Acceptable |
