Fig 1a. Shows symptoms of a susceptible pepper leaf that was inoculated with either an empty vector Xanthomonas campestris pv. vesicatoria strain without AvrBs3 (no hypertrophy) or a strain that is expressing avrBs3 which clearly shows hypertrophy and pathogenesis. Fig 1b also shows the expression of avrBs3 in nicotiana clevlandii through agrobacterium mediated transformation which also elicits hypertrophy.
