The paper states that the assembly of the C. crescentus flagellum is accomplished through the organization of the flagellar structural genes in a regulatory hierarchy, but the fliX gene doesn't actually participate in this organization. FliX actually functions at an early stage in flagellar assembly. Figure 5 shows increased fliX activity at the beginning of flagellar assembly. | 4 |
