Challenge | Lrodgers, Team KremlinOnTheCrum | 2011-11-12 10:40:39 CST | Table 4 does not show the nitrogen fixation activity of nif mutants. The mutants are grown in 0.01 mM molybdenum. The authors explicitly say that at this level of molybdenum the cells nitrogen fixation systems are repressed. Table 4 is instead showing the activity of the molybdenum-containing nitrogenase system. To fix this annotation I would change the GO term to GO:0016163 for nitrogenase activity. | 0 |
Public Assessment | Bmcintosh | 2011-11-17 13:23:11 CST | Annotation is for NifK, which is required for nitrogen fixation. The authors describe how their assay represses alternative nitrogen fixation systems, but does still study one of the three nitrogen fixation systems of this bacterium. The more broad term of nitrogen fixation is appropriate and the change to a function term is not since the authors aren't differentiating the enzymatic functions of the genes, only their Nif phenotype. | Acceptable |
