The claim of cp11 not affecting viability or density by itself does not support the necessity of cph1 to produce holins. Cp11 endolysin can be released through the activity of the cph1 holin. This statement supports the fact that cp11 works with cph11 to weaken the membrane. But cph1 may not be necessarily needed; another gene may interact similarly so to say cph1 is a necessity would not be completely right.

I agree with the challenger that the evidence you mention does not per se support the GO term cytolysis. You could argue that it may be negative regulating cell growth based on that figure?
