Challenge | Nadezdha.Hughes, Team Tiger2 | 2016-05-01 13:27:58 CDT | As displayed on the GO definition page, this term is not allowed for annotation. Instead, a parent or child term should be used. The table used as evidence only suggests the final functions suggested by the authors. It does not prove the function through experimental evidence. I suggest using the parent term of virion. However, this may be too broad of a term to use. You can attempt to request an adsorption term. Or, use Figure 4 to annotate the term "virus tail fiber assembly." Though it does not function as a tail fiber itself, it may have a part in their assembly. This can be seen in the discussion and Figure 4. Discussion-Suggests possible "factor in tail assembly" and gene "perhaps forms a scaffold around gp11 and gp12 polymerize." Figure 4-Virions that lack the tail fiber gp17 also lack gp7.3 | None, yet. | ||||||||||||||||||

Public Assessment | Suzialeksander | 2016-04-26 20:46:23 CDT | No annotation to "part" terms. Look at the term in any browser- you'll see a line about Restrictions: This term should not be used for direct annotation. See comment below for further information. Comment: Note that this term is in the subset of terms that should not be used for direct gene product annotation. Instead, select a child term or, if no appropriate child term exists, please request a new term. Public Assessment | AAJohnson | 2016-04-26 18:43:09 CDT | The annotation might be a stretch. The paper says the logic can't be correct for this protein to be a tail fiber. The paper shows the protein is required for virus adsorption, and possibly involved in phage assembly. The authors speculate in the discussion about possible function, but it remains undefined. This annotation could be corrected by going up a level in GO and using "virion part" as the cellular component. The student should identify the evidence that supports that annotation. | Requires Changes ✔ Protein ✔ Publication ✔ Qualifier ✗ Go term ✗ Evidence ✔ With/From ✗ Notes ✔ Unique/Original |
