The protein EFD does show de novo DNA methylation activity in vitro according to figure 7, but not in vivo activity as this annotation states. In figure 7, they incubated the EFD protein with a substate of DNA that had a methylation sensitive cut site for the enzyme AclI. Since the EFD protein was able to methylate the DNA de novo, digestion resulted in a fragment that could not be cleaved by AclI. This result was similar to the positive control, which was a known methyltransferase, CpG methyltransferase. Yet this activity took place in a test tube and not in a cell, thus this only shows in vitro, not in vivo activity.

Also, I think that a better GO term would be DNA methyl-transferase activity, since this figure indicates that EFD methylates DNA instead of juvenile hormone acids. This would be the GO term: GO:0009008.
