figure 3 show growth rates of alkB1 mutants on different n-alkanes. the growth rate was lowered in alkB1 mutants grown on n-hexane, while not affected when grown on other alkanes. This shows that alkB1 is involved in the degradation of n-hexane, while other enzymes are involved in the degradation of longer chain alkanes.
