By using a knockout mutation of trxA to test in altered oxidative stress resistant environments it was found that the inactivation of the gene caused higher levels of damaging oxidative macromolecules. It can be seen in Figure 1 that thioredoxin is needed under these conditions and TrxA is expressed to produce this macromolecule.
