When looking at Figure 2 it is evident that the more mutations in the irr gene that impact Irr protein function have a negative impact on its ability to repress a mbfA-lacZ reporter gene. According to the paper a double mutation will have a small defect but a triple mutation will cause a large defect in the repressor function. |
