Under the notes section, Figure 3 does not appear to be relevant to the main point of this article. The article is trying to show us the function of something and which sequences are important for binding by causing mutations at certain positions. It is not important to know how the sequence was mutated, but instead it is important to know be able to find out what sequences are important after performing the mutations.
