This is a rebuttal to Mdao3's challenge: It is true that in the text they say that the FAr conferring mutation (which was later found to be a mutation in the regulatory region of ydhL, or pbuE) affected gene expression, but in the experiments showing this, they employed lacZ fusions, which are really measuring the amount of transcription. So, this child-term seemed more fitting to me, as the evidence specifically shows a difference in the amount of transcription.

Both teams are missing the point here. pbuE is a purine efflux pump and has nothing to do with gene regulation. It is the expression of pbuE that is being regulated here. The paper seems to be more about RNA secondary structure and its role in regulation of the pur operon.

Unacceptable
