The ability of siphophage HK97 to infect E. coli lacking different proteins (LamB, PtsG and FkpA) was assayed in this manner. LamB is known to play a key role in DNA injection, so cells lacking it showed no potassium efflux, as expected. Cells lacking FkpA also showed greatly reduced levels of potassium efflux, suggesting that it also plays a role in DNA injection. complete
