Figure 4: This figure demonstrates the phenotypic results of a targeted knock-out mutagenesis of the SagC gene in S. pyogenes. Hemolytic activity loss in the mutant phenotype was detected by serum bactericidal assay, and the wild-type activity is attributed to the production and function of the toxin streptolysin S. Therefore, the gene product of SagC is involved in the biosynthesis of SLS.
