Rodríguez-Díaz, J, Monedero, V and Yebra, MJ (2011) Utilization of natural fucosylated oligosaccharides by three novel alpha-L-fucosidases from a probiotic Lactobacillus casei strain. Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 77:703-5 |
|---|---|
| Abstract |
Three putative α-L-fucosidases encoded in the Lactobacillus casei BL23 genome were cloned and purified. The proteins displayed different abilities to hydrolyze natural fucosyloligosaccharides like 2'-fucosyllactose, H antigen disaccharide, H antigen type II trisaccharide, and 3'-, 4'-, and 6'-fucosyl-GlcNAc. This indicated a possible role in the utilization of oligosaccharides present in human milk and intestinal mucosa. |

Table 2 shows the data for the enzymatic activities of alfA in the presence of various natural fucosylated substrates. The enzymatic activity was determined by measuring the amount of fucose produced(umol) per milligram of enzyme per minute. The data shows that AlfC only causes the catalysis of the hydrolysis of (1->6) linkages between alpha-L-fucose and N-acetyl-D-glucosamine in glycopeptides such as immunoglobulin G glycopeptide and fucosyl-asialo-agalacto-fetuin. |

Table 2 shows the data for the enzymatic activities of alfB in the presence of various natural fucosylated substrates. The enzymatic activity was determined by measuring the amount of fucose produced(umol) per milligram of enzyme per minute. The data shows that Alfb only causes the catalysis of the hydrolysis of (1->3) linkages between alpha-L-fucose and N-acetylglucosamine residues in glycoproteins. |
