Fig. 1 shows the nucleotide sequence of the ptsI gene and dedcuded amino acid of E1 in B. subtilis and is compared in Fig. 3 to that of the E1 amino acid sequence in E. coli, revealing sequence similarity. The function of E1 in B. subtilis was identified based on the fact that E. coli has evidence to this system in addition to the results from this paper.
