The assays in this paper suggest that Lis1 affects filopodia dynamics, which in turn can affect synapse formation.

GO:0051491 In figure 2D, reduced filopodia density was observed in Lis1+/- neurons as compared to Lis1+/+ control neurons. Other results in figure 2 support the role of Lis1 in positive regulation of filopodia assembly as well.
