The GO term is incorrect. The (indirect) effect that viral P6 protein has on host cell death (apoptosis) is due to the role of viral P6 protein in regulating the host salicylic acid-mediated signal transduction pathways. The evidence suggests that pathways involved in the promotion of cell death in response to SA are inhibited by viral P6 protein. A more appropriate GO term would be "negative regulation by symbiont of defense-related host salicylic acid-mediated signal transduction pathway" (GO:0052003). I would cite Figure 2 as evidence of this regulation (IMP).
