I think that the best Go term would be GO:0032464 which is coded for positive regulation of protein homooligomerization. Since figure 8 suggests that gp39 forms a protein oligomer, this shows that it it would be a positive regulator of the protein homooligomerization since it initiates/increases the frequency of protein homooligomerization.
