Public Assessment | Ebcaraway | 2016-04-12 20:04:06 CDT | Hi! So in the bad news, this annotation needs some work. There is good news! If you work on it, you can get two annotations from this one figure! Exciting stuff. Lets go take a look at Figure 7 in this paper. What are they testing here? A and B are both looking at biofilms on polystyrene and C is looking at adhesion on epithelial cells. What are they using for these tests? A parental, mutant, and complemented strain. Do you think your evidence code is right? Okay, so you've fixed that. So now let's deal with your notes. You said figure 7, but not all of figure 7 deals with biofilm formation, does it? You need to narrow it down. The cool part here is that you can annotate the other part of figure 7 to a different GO term. Two annotations, one figure! So for the biofilms, are they actually dealing with adhesion? Nope. So head back to biofilm formation (which you can't annotate to) and look at the child terms. Was this a single species assay or were there many different species growing together? You've got your next term. Look at the next child terms. Were these biofilms submerged or on the surface? If you check the materials and methods, these were grown in liquid culture. You've got your next term. What kind of substrate is polystyrene? Woot. Now you've got some thinking to do. In the wild-type, no biofilms are found, but when asrR is knocked out, biofilms are formed. What kind of regulation is this? You've got your GO term! Let's talk about what you should do for your second annotation. Look at Figure 7C. What's going on here? I think you can find a GO term that fits here. Its going to be a regulation term just like your other one. | Requires Changes ✔ Protein ✔ Publication ✔ Qualifier ✗ Go term ✗ Evidence ✔ With/From ✗ Notes ✔ Unique/Original | ||||||||||||||||||
