CACAO
the intercollegiate annotation competition!
|
The Community Assessment of Community Annotation with Ontologies (CACAO) is a competition for teams of undergrads around the world to improve the functional annotation of genes. CACAO was developed and is currently run at Texas A&M University, along with many other institutions.
If you are interested in participating, please email us - ecoliwiki@gmail.com.

Please note: The calendar at the bottom may change slightly before the competition begins.
Don't forget - no binding terms (i.e. DNA binding, etc) & no response to terms (i.e. response to heat, etc)
Quick Links
- Confused as to what is required in the Notes?
- Need a GO term? There are a couple of similar choices:
- EBI's tool has several useful features.
- Try the GO Consortium's beta version of AmiGO! Make sure you search just the "Ontology" documents if prompted.
- Use GONUTS
Participating schools
- Centenary College of Louisiana
- Suffolk University
- Texas A&M University

Past background info is at the About CACAO page. Links to new material will be posted here.
Evidence codes you are permitted to choose from
Here's a list of the evidence codes that CACAO students may use:
- IDA: Inferred from Direct Assay
- IMP: Inferred from Mutant Phenotype
- IGI: Inferred from Genetic Interaction - requires with/from field to be filled in
- ISO: Inferred from Sequence Orthology - requires with/from field to be filled in
- ISA: Inferred from Sequence Alignment - requires with/from field to be filled in
- ISM: Inferred from Sequence Model - requires with/from field to be filled in
- IGC: Inferred from Genomic Context
ALL other codes, even if used correctly, will cause the annotation to be rejected by the judges
Virus-related GO terms
- For those of you interested in annotating proteins from viruses and phages:
