Fig. 5 shows direct homology of the LacC protein from S. aureus with that of PfkB from E. coli which has evidence of tagatose-6-phosphate kinase activity.

Fig. 3 nucleotide sequence of ptsI gene of S. mutans shows 47.7% identity with E1 of E. coli. E1 and HPr products of ptsI genes in S. mutans are also shown to be expressed in E. coli and E1 can complement a ptsI defect in E. coli.

Enzymatic assays indicate galK gene is translated into active proteins. Fig 3. shows T7 overexpression of the gal gene products. Fig. 5 shows induction of galK with activity reaching a max after 3 hours.
